theEMPLOYEEapp Survey: Ways Internal Communication Affect Employees

Therefore, theEMPLOYEEapp Survey suggests that employers could benefit from a mobile first communication strategy that works towards improving job satisfaction and employee engagement.

theEMPLOYEEapp tool, which is part of theCOMMSapp family of apps, “allows employers to increase engagement by establishing a direct line of communication with their employees via [a] mobile device;” currently, it is available for iPhone, iPad and Android (News – Alert) platforms.

Given the rise of mobile technology and since the growth of personal-owned devices (BYOD) is now in full swing, the survey also sought out the extent to which employees use mobile devices along with legacy communication methodologies in the workplace to support their desire to be more productive and mobile. A Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) policy in the work environment does provide “opportunity to take advantage of the power of these devices to access corporate Intranets and social collaboration tools via mobile,” said Jeff Corbin, founder and CEO of theCOMMSapp(communications app). theEMPLOYEEapp can be used for secure, internal communications and allows employers to keeps in touch with employees by pushing important information to their mobile device no matter where they are located.

Gallup’s ongoing study of the American workplace provides insight to the impact of engagement on organizational and individual performance. The research found that at least 70 percent of the workforce is not really engaged in the job; this results in a loss of $550 billion revenue in corporate America each year. Findings of the study show employers that it is beneficial to increase engagement so to reduce lost revenue. This can be done, simply, by modifying the company communication strategy. Considering a mobile approach, according to Corbin, can ultimately, “improve communications and hence, engagement.”

According to the survey, 93.4 percent of participants reported that email is the most common way in which employers currently communicate and send/receive company information; email still remains the primary internal communications method, but it is becoming clear that employees are overloaded with them. Therefore, companies are finding other apt communication methodologies well suited for mobile, like conference calls/webinars (25 percent of employers). Other employers (14 percent), instead, favor utilizing internal social collaboration networks (SharePoint,Yammer (News – Alert), Jive, Salesforce Chatter, etc.). In this connected, electronic world, it is encouraging that a good 54 percent of companies still choose the “in person” method to effectively deliver information.
