Host: Season’s greetings from ICTV. For our year end episode, we’ve got a very special guest on to talk about the evolution of the employee communications application market.
Jeff Corbin: Hi, everyone. It’s Jeff Corbin the CEO and Founder of APPrise Mobile. It’s been quite some time since my last vlog, and I felt that with the holidays upon us that now would be a good time for me to touch base and to wish all of you a very happy holiday season from all of us at APPrise Mobile.
This year is a really important one for us. It’s been five years since we commercially launched theEMPLOYEEapp. And with that, I’m proud to say that we were the first company in the United States to recognize the opportunity that mobile afforded communications professionals to be more effective, to be more efficient in our work and to actually try to do something about this.
At that time, the buzzword of the day in technology was collaboration, and Slack was the darling of the tech industry. I remember being challenged by one of Gartner’s analysts on where the collaboration component was in theEMPLOYEEapp, and I remember trying to explain to him that collaboration and chat wasn’t the problem that companies were looking to solve. Rather they were looking for a way to communicate, to get information to and engage with the nearly three billion deskless workers who didn’t use desktop computers in their day-to-day, didn’t have corporate email addresses, and didn’t have access to their company’s intranet.
Like parking attendants at hotel casinos like Caesars Entertainment, nurses in the many hospitals of the Northwell Health healthcare system, or the truck drivers and the warehouse employees that were working for NFI. And there was the opportunity to reach these three billion people through their mobile device.
More important is the fact that since our initial briefing, Gartner has actually defined and is writing research on a new tech market, which they’re calling Employee Communications Applications or ECA. We at theEMPLOYEEapp are one part of this market, we also take credit for helping to shape the evolution of ECA.
Mobile devices didn’t exist 10 years ago. Communications professionals didn’t have the ability to go straight to the jugular, straight to the pocket of not only their targeted audiences, but the specific people that they want and need to get their key messages, communications, and information to. But now they do.
Once again, happy holidays. I want to wish all of you a healthy, happy, and prosperous new year.
Host: We can’t wait to see what the next ten years are going to bring for employment communications technology and the rise of the deskless worker. In next episode of ICTV we’ll tell you the top five things you need for a successful internal comms strategy.
